The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) is the main state agency responsible for supervising offenders in prisons, jails, juvenile facilities and other correctional facilities. The CDCR has 35 adult institutions throughout the state, and it is the largest state-run prison system in the United States. The CDCR has a statewide database that enables members of the public to search for inmates in California’s state prisons and county jails as well as other corrections facilities.

In addition, the CDCR there is also a free online service called VINELink. This tool makes it easier for family members or other interested parties to search for inmates in California state prisons and county jails and obtain valuable information related to their status. Through VINELink, you can view an inmate’s location, release dates and other personal information. You can also register to receive notifications when an inmate’s status changes or a court appearance is scheduled.

You can also search for an inmate by calling the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation at (916) 445-6713.

In addition to the CDCR website, each county in California typically has its own inmate search tool on their respective sheriff department or jail websites. These tools allow you to search for inmates in county and city jails by name or booking number. Some county websites also provide information on visiting hours, rules and regulations, and inmate services.
