The Illinois correctional system is responsible for the management and supervision of individuals who have been convicted of a crime in the state of Illinois. The system is overseen by the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) which is responsible for the operation of all state correctional facilities, including prisons and juvenile detention centers.

The IDOC is responsible for the rehabilitation and reentry of offenders into society through programs such as education, vocational training, and substance abuse treatment. The department also ensures that offenders have access to medical and mental health services while in custody.

Illinois has a total of 28 adult correctional facilities, including 24 prisons and four work camps. In addition, the state operates three juvenile detention centers.

Inmates in Illinois can be located using the Inmate Lookup search tool, which is available on the IDOC website. This search requires that you input either the inmate's nine-digit IDOC Number or their first and last name. If a match is found, the inmate's name, IDOC Number, birthdate, and current location will be displayed.

The Illinois Department is responsible for overseeing the state's correctional facilities and probation and parole services. of Corrections also operates a VINELink service, which is a free and confidential way to search for offenders who are currently in IDOC custody or who have been released within the past 90 days. To use this service, you must register with VINELink and create an account. Once registered, you can then search for offenders by name, IDOC number, gender or county of conviction.

In addition to the IDOC facilities, there are many County Jails in Illinois that house inmates. To search for inmates in these jails, check each jail's website or contact them directly. Most County Jails allow you to search for inmates via their name, date of birth, inmate ID number or booking number. Some jails also offer additional search criteria such as gender, race and date of incarceration. Inmate Records can be requested from the jail where the inmate was housed.
